What hypnotherapy really is

What hypnotherapy really is (and isn't)

Have you ever wondered why you think or act in certain ways, even when you consciously desire something different? The answer often lies within your subconscious mind – a powerful database of habits, beliefs, and past experiences influencing your present behaviour.

Hypnosis bridges the gap between your conscious desires and your subconscious programming. It’s a state of deep relaxation and focused attention that allows you to access and transform these underlying patterns. Imagine it as a way to ‘reprogram’ your mind for positive change.

Here’s the key: Hypnosis is not mind control. You remain in complete control throughout the session. It’s a collaborative process where a trained hypnotherapist guides you to connect with your subconscious and make positive suggestions that empower you to

  • Change unwanted thoughts and behaviours
  • Improve your emotional wellbeing
  • Achieve your goals

“What if I can’t be hypnotised?”
If you can daydream or get lost in your thoughts, you can experience hypnosis. It’s a natural state your mind already knows how to access.

“How is this different from counselling?”
Talking gives you insight, but it doesn’t always change the emotional reaction. Hypnotherapy works with the subconscious – the part running your habits, fears and patterns, so the change actually sticks.

“Will I have to talk about everything in my past?”
No. You only share what you feel comfortable sharing. We focus on how your mind is reacting now and on creating safety and calm in the present.

What is EMDR?

EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, is a powerful therapy that can help you overcome the effects of traumatic experiences. Originally developed by Francine Shapiro in 1987 to treat PTSD, EMDR has since been shown to be effective for a range of other conditions.

During a session, I will guide you through a series of eye movements while you focus on a traumatic memory or unresolved conflict. This can lead to physical sensations, shifts in thoughts and internal dialogue, and changes in emotions as we process the event.

By doing so, we can help your brain let go of negative emotions and retain positive learning, resulting in profound changes in your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.

Why the Combination Works

While EMDR helps you clear the past, hypnotherapy enables you to shape the future.
Together, they create a bridge between healing and growth.

This dual approach means:

  • Faster breakthroughs
  • More permanent results
  • A deeper sense of self-awareness and control

Who It’s For

This approach is especially effective if:

  • You feel stuck, even after trying therapy or coaching
  • You want more than surface-level change

You’re ready to shift how you feel, not just how you think.

Is Hypnotheapy Right For You?

Hypnotherapy can be a powerful tool for personal growth and positive change, but it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. Here are some signs that hypnotherapy could be a great fit for you:

  • You’re Open to New Possibilities: Hypnotherapy works by harnessing the power of your subconscious mind. If you’re willing to explore this approach and believe in your ability to change, you’ll be well on your way to success.
  • You’re Ready to Take an Active Role: While hypnotherapists guide you through the process, hypnotherapy is ultimately a collaborative effort. Your commitment and willingness to participate actively are key to achieving positive results.
  • You’re Looking for a Natural Solution: Hypnotherapy is a drug-free, non-  invasive approach to addressing a variety of challenges. If you’re seeking a natural way to improve your well-being, hypnotherapy could be the answer.
  • You’re Tired of Feeling Stuck: Are you struggling with a persistent issue that traditional methods haven’t resolved? Hypnotherapy can offer a fresh perspective and empower you to break free from limiting patterns.
  • You’re Curious and Motivated: If you’re intrigued by the potential of hypnotherapy and feel genuinely motivated to create positive change in your life, then you’re already a step ahead.

Still unsure? I offer a free consultation where you can discuss your specific goals and ask any questions you may have. Together, we can explore whether hypnotherapy is the right path for you.
